Well Water Testing

Free Well Water Testing in the Willamette Valley & Oregon Coast

Clear water isn't the same as clean water. The contaminants that matter most here — arsenic, nitrate, bacteria — have no taste, smell, or color. We test your well water for free so you actually know what's in it, then tell you straight whether you need treatment or not.

Why it matters

Why Test Your Well Water in Oregon

Private wells aren't regulated — it's on the owner to know. And the numbers say it matters: statewide, about 1 in 4 Oregon wells exceed the arsenic standard, about 1 in 6 exceed nitrate, and roughly a third of rural Willamette Valley wells contain at least one pesticide.

Arsenic, nitrate, and coliform bacteria are odorless and tasteless. Your water can look perfect and still need treatment.

When to test

When You Should Test Your Well

You've never tested

Most Oregon wells haven't had a recent panel run — a first test is the only way to establish a baseline.

You notice a change

New taste, smell, color, or staining means something shifted in your water or your system.

After well work

Pump replacement, new drop pipe, or a pulled well — retest before drinking heavily from it again.

Pregnant or infants in the home

Nitrate is especially dangerous for infants under six months — test before it matters.

Annually for bacteria & nitrate

Per Oregon Health Authority guidance — these two change fastest and matter most.

Buying or selling a property

A current test protects everyone in the transaction.

Questions

Well Water Testing FAQ

Is free water testing really free?

+
Yes. We test well water at no charge for well owners in our service area — that's been our practice for years. If the test turns up something that needs treatment, we'll show you the most cost-effective fix; if it's clean, we tell you that. No catch and no obligation to buy anything.

What contaminants should I test for in Oregon?

+
At a minimum: arsenic, nitrate, and coliform bacteria — all three are invisible, tasteless, and common in local groundwater. Beyond that, iron, manganese, hardness, and pH are useful for choosing the right treatment if something else is going on.

How often should I test my well water?

+
The Oregon Health Authority recommends bacteria and nitrate testing every year, plus testing any time you've had well work done, noticed a change in taste, smell, color, or pressure, or had nearby flooding or septic work. A broader panel every few years is good practice.

My water looks and tastes fine — do I still need a test?

+
Yes. The most serious well-water contaminants in this region — arsenic, nitrate, and coliform bacteria — can't be seen, smelled, or tasted. Perfectly clear, good-tasting water can still be above the health standard. Testing is the only way to know.
